Bitcoin is getting smoked as the crypto market eyes its lowest level of the year **

· *Bitcoin was gunning for a year-to-date low Friday morning, according to Markets Insider data. *
· *The crypto was trading at $6,144 a coin at 9:48 a.m. ET. *

Bitcoin was eyeing its lowest level of the year Friday morning, according to Markets Insider data.

The coin, which soared close to $20,000 at the end of 2017, was trading down 8.6% at $6,144 as all of the major cryptos were under pressure. Ethereum was trading down 11% at $467 a token while bitcoin cash, a spin-off of the original bitcoin, was trading down 13% at $751 a coin.

As for bitcoin, it hit its 2018 low of $5,922 in February. In total, the entire crypto market has shed half of its value since the beginning of the year, according to CoinMarketCap data. At last check, the market stood at $267 billion. In April it hit its lowest point of 2018, falling below $250 billion.

The market for cryptocurrencies has been under pressure throughout much of 2018 following a massive bull-run last year, which was triggered by the launch of bitcoin futures, a derivatives product. Many thought those products would legitimize the nascent market and precipitate the entrance of institutional money into the space. For the most part, asset managers and other large investors have stayed away from the volatile market, which is not for the faint of heart.

Still, the market has attracted major Wall Street trading firms and high-frequency traders such as DRW and Jump Trading. Goldman Sachs is working on a crypto trading desk.

Apple's top manufacturer says that China has 'unreasonable regulations, unreasonable laws' and its workers should be allowed to work more overtime (AAPL)

Apple's top manufacturer says that China has 'unreasonable regulations, unreasonable laws' and its workers should be allowed to work more overtime (AAPL)· *Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou would rather manufacture under U.S. law than Chinese regulations.*
· *One of his complaints with Chinese law is the amount of overtime that factory workers are allowed to take. *
· *Gou also said Foxconn's top challenge is the U.S.-China trade war.*

--------------------

Foxconn argued on Friday that it should be governed under U.S. regulations, instead of Chinese regulations, because its customers, like Apple, are American.

Terry Gou, Foxconn's chairman, made the remarks at the manufacturer's annual shareholder meeting, according to Bloomberg and Reuters.

“China has tougher overtime regulations than the U.S. and the European Union, and they understand those are unreasonable regulations, unreasonable laws,” Gou said, according to Bloomberg.

Overtime is one of the most critical labor issues in electronics manufacturing. Legally, workers cannot work over 60 hours in a week in many Chinese regions, but workers get paid 1.5 times for overtime or weekend hours, so many workers want to take those shifts.

Apple found last year that Foxconn interns had worked more than 40 hours per week assembling the iPhone X. Foxconn is Apple's most important manufacturing partner.

Many of Foxconn's factories are based in China, although it is based in Taiwan. It will break ground on a $10 billion factory in Wisconsin next week, which will be its biggest U.S. facility. Foxconn received billions in state and local aid in exchange for a promise to create jobs. President Donald Trump is expected to attend the ceremony.

But some of Trump's other economic policies, such as saber-rattling over tariffs, are less popular with Foxconn. Gou said that the biggest challenge that Foxconn is facing is the prospect of a trade war with China.

"The biggest challenge we’re facing is the U.S.-China trade war. In terms of how we manage and adapt, this is something all our high-level managers are making various plans on," Gou said, according to Reuters.

Amazon is selling the first phones that let you summon Alexa with a physical button

Amazon is selling the first phones that let you summon Alexa with a physical button **

· *Amazon is selling the first phones that can access Alexa by pressing a smartphone's physical buttons. *
· *They offer the easiest way to access Alexa on a smartphone.*
· *The Prime Exclusive Moto G6 Play is a great device, but the Prime Exclusive Moto Z3 Play can be easily outdone by spending $80 more on the OnePlus 6.*

--------------------

Amazon announced on Friday that it's adding the Prime Exclusive Moto G6 Play and Prime Exclusive Moto Z3 Play to its Amazon Prime Exclusive lineup, and they come with a trick that no other smartphone has.

You can double-press the power button to summon Amazon's smart voice assistant, Alexa.

That's pretty significant for anyone who uses Alexa, and a lot of people do.

It's estimated that 16% of the US population own a smart speaker as of January 2018, according to NPR and Edison Research. Of that 16%, 11% own an Alexa-powered device, like the Amazon Echo or Sonos One. That's a little over four million people who use Alexa.

On other smartphones, you could always use Alexa by going into the Alexa app. But the Amazon Prime Exclusive Moto G6 Play and Z3 Play make it easier by letting you double-press the power button when the phone is unlocked. Amazon is essentially reducing the amount of steps to access Alexa on the Prime Exclusive Moto G6 Play and Moto Z3 Play.

Other phones have dedicated buttons for smart voice assistants. Samsung's Galaxy phones controversially have a dedicated button for its Bixby voice assistant, which isn't particularly popular. And the button can't be re-mapped to summon a different assistant, like the superior Google Assistant or Amazon's Alexa. The LG G7 has a dedicated button for Google Assistant, too.

*Alexa aside, are these phones any good?*

Amazon's Prime Exclusive phones can usually be found outside of Amazon, but the Prime Exclusive models come with a nice little discount in exchange for coming pre-loaded with some Amazon apps, including Prime Music, Prime Video, and Prime Photos.

The $190 Prime Exclusive Moto G6 Play is on the lower-end of the mid-range spectrum in terms of performance and features, but it has some appealing benefits. Combined with a power-efficient processor and display, the Moto G6 Play's 4,000mAh offers a 36-hour battery life, according to Motorola, which is higher than most high-end smartphones.

The $450 Prime Exclusive Moto Z3 Play is on the higher-end of the mid-range spectrum, with decently powerful performance and and extensive features when combined with Motorola's modules called "Moto Mods." Some modules include a larger battery, a stereo speaker, and even a mini projector.

Both the Prime Exclusive Moto G6 Play and Z3 Play also run a near-stock version of Android that's leaner, cleaner, and simpler than most versions of Android you'd find on other phones.

Motorola make the best mid-range devices we're aware of because they come with good design, performance, and features at a great value. Anyone looking for a good smartphone without the high-end price tag should check out Motorola's latest G6 series smartphones, whether it's the Prime Exclusive model or the regular $200 Motorola model.

With that said, both the regular or Prime Exclusive Moto Z3 is a little harder to recommend for its price tag. You can spend $530 — $80 more than the Prime Exclusive Moto Z3 Play — on the OnePlus 6, which offers phenomenal high-end performance, design, near-stock Android, and features that easily competes with phones that cost above $700.

Apple fined £5m by Australian court for 'bricking' devices Silicon valley giant Apple has been slapped with a A$9m (£5m) after an Australian regulator accused the company of deliberately disabling users' devices.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said the company used a software update to "brick" the devices of customers who had used a third party to repair their phone or tablet's broken screen.

Apple were also found to have refused to unlock devices if they had been fixed by repairers who didn't work for the tech titan.

Around 275 customers were affected by an 'error 53 problem' and told they would not have their bricked phone unlocked.

The Australian Federal court fined Apple A$9m for making false or misleading representations to customers with faulty iPhones or iPads.

"Apple’s representations led customers to believe they’d be denied a remedy for their faulty device because they used a third party repairer,” said ACCC Commissioner Sarah Court.

"The court declared the mere fact that an iPhone or iPad had been repaired by someone other than Apple did not, and could not, result in the consumer guarantees ceasing to apply, or the consumer’s right to a remedy being extinguished.

"If people buy an iPhone or iPad from Apple and it suffers a major failure, they are entitled to a refund," she added. "If customers would prefer a replacement, they are entitled to a new device as opposed to refurbished, if one is available."

An Apple spokesperson said:

We're constantly looking for ways to enhance the service we deliver and we had very productive conversations with the ACCC about this. We will continue to do all we can to deliver excellent service to all of our customers in Australia.
