Dialog's new development kit reduces time-to-market and increases the functionality of smart home and other IoT devices

*London, United Kingdom *- *November 16, 2016* - Dialog Semiconductor plc (XETRA:DLG), a provider of highly integrated power management, AC/DC power conversion, solid state lighting (SSL) and Bluetooth^(R) low energy (LE) technology, today announced the availability of its latest Apple HomeKit^development kit, to reduce the time-to-market and increase functionality of smart home and other Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

With the recent introduction of iOS 10, Apple HomeKit is now an integral part of iOS, including its dedicated app that creates an enhanced user experience. The Apple Home app is compatible not just with iPhone, but is also optimized for iPad and the Apple Watch running watchOS 3. With the app, an Apple TV or iPad can easily act as a smart home hub, enabling home control from anywhere.

Dialog's second-generation kit supports all current HomeKit Accessory Profiles within Apple's updated IoT platform. The kit itself is built on Dialog's SmartBond(TM) DA14681 System-on-Chip (SoC), the most integrated single chip solution that is purpose-built for IoT development, providing connectivity to a variety of battery-powered devices. It is the first SoC on the market with dedicated hardware acceleration for HomeKit security operations which ensures end-to-end application encryption, safeguarding personal information in transit.

"Our new development kit lowers the barriers for smart home device development," said Sean McGrath, SVP and GM Connectivity Business Group, Dialog Semiconductor. "Beyond the simplicity of the highly integrated connectivity SoC at the heart of the kit, its fastest response times create the best possible user experience for end devices, with initial pairing taking less than 2.8 seconds and responding faster than 250 ms whenever an iOS device issues a command. This creates an instant response whenever a user interacts with a HomeKit-powered light, door lock, smoke detector or other accessory."
The SmartBond(TM) DA14681 supports Bluetooth 4.2 to provide seamless connectivity, and smartly balances power efficiency and performance, with an integrated ARM(R) Cortex(TM) M0 processor and expandable flash memory. A Power Management Unit (PMU) provides three independent power rails, in addition to an on-chip charger and fuel gauge, allowing DA14681 to recharge batteries over a USB interface.

Its integrated topology streamlines development, minimizes BOM cost and enables the kit to consume less than five µA on standby. The development kit maximizes application space and flexibility, using a mere 170 kB of Flash memory and provides 64 kB of RAM for apps to utilize, even allowing user defined profiles to further customize applications on top of pre-configured HomeKit profiles.

To give developers all of the tools they need to create next-gen IoT applications, the DA14681 development kit consists of the HomeKit SDK, Basic and Pro versions of the kit, and a flexible add-on board to interface with the separately available MFi chip.

The new HomeKit development kit and add-on board are now available from Avnet, Digi-Key and Mouser. Click here to learn more.

*Mobile business*

The Group's Mobile business saw another period of strong growth in third-quarter 2016, with 305,000 net adds. Revenues for the quarter rose by more than 12% year on year to €521 million, bringing the year-to-date revenue figure to €1,495 million. The significant events of the quarter for the Mobile business were as follows:

· *A solid commercial performance* . By standing out from the competition for the depth and breadth of its offerings and unchanged prices, * Free was France's leading recruiter of mobile subscribers for the 19 ^th quarter in a row ^[3] , with net adds amounting to more than 300,000 during the period. * Free is the only operator in France to offer a plan costing less than €20 per month that includes (i) roaming from all European Union countries, the United States, Australia, Canada, Iceland, Norway and Israel, and (ii) 50 GB of 4G internet. At September 30, 2016, Free had 12.4 million mobile subscribers, representing a market share of almost 18%3.
· *Ongoing excellent take-up for Free's €19.99 per month plan* (€15.99 per month for Freebox subscribers) *,* *led by an increase in 4G usage and subscriber migrations from the €2 per month plan* (€0 per month for Freebox subscribers). The vast majority of the Group's new subscribers are now opting for the €19.99 per month plan (€15.99 per month for Freebox subscribers), directly reflecting consumers' growing appetite for mobile data usage. As a result, 43% of the Group's subscribers (i.e., 5.3 million) are 4G subscribers. Their average monthly 4G data usage is now 4.4 GB per subscriber.
· *Free was ranked the best operator in France* in the latest customer satisfaction survey carried out by the consumer magazine 60 millions de consommateurs , with an overall 95% satisfaction rate for mobile telephony services and 92% for landline Internet access services.
· *Mobile services revenues up 12% year on year.* This solid growth was achieved as a direct consequence of the increasing proportion of subscribers on the €19.99 per month plan (€15.99 per month for Freebox subscribers), as the total mobile subscriber base rose by 9.5% during the period.
· *A rise in revenues from handsets,* notably due to (i) the success of the iPhone 7 and (ii) the back-to-school period, which is generally a time of strong handset sales.

*Landline business*

Despite an extremely competitive operating environment during the third quarter of 2016, with numerous promotional offers launched by competitors, the Group kept up the excellent momentum in its Landline business and accelerated the pace of growth, with revenues rising 2.2% to €665 million. The significant events of the quarter for the Landline business were as follows:

· *An increase in the Broadband and Ultra-Fast Broadband subscriber base, with 66,000 new subscribers,* representing a net add market share of 30%. In spite of the numerous promotional offers launched by other operators during the period, the Group managed to sign up such a large number of new subscribers thanks to (i) the strong reputation of the Free brand and the quality of the Freebox Revolution, (ii) the measures taken to enrich its offerings, notably by including new landline destinations in the Freebox plan, and (iii) the online flash sale carried out during the back-to-school period. At September 30, 2016, the Group had a total of 6.3 million Broadband and Ultra-Fast Broadband subscribers.
· *Broadband and Ultra-Fast Broadband ARPU came in at €33.50, reflecting the impact of promotional offers and unfavorable seasonal effects (lower use of audiovisual services).* ARPU for the Freebox Revolution offering remained above €38 (excluding promotions).
· *2.2% year-on-year revenue growth for the period* .

*SUSTAINED PACE OF FTTH AND 4G NETWORK ROLLOUTS*

During the third quarter of 2016, the Group continued to invest in its landline and mobile networks, with:

· *Some 900,000 new connectible FTTH sockets added* , bringing the total to 4 million at September 30, 2016 compared with 2.5 million at end-2015. This increase clearly demonstrates the Group's positioning as a major player in France's ultra-fast broadband market.
· *More than 700 new 3G sites opened* , raising the Group's total number of 3G sites in service to over 7,500, enabling the Group's network to provide 3G coverage to over 85% of the French population at September 30, 2016.
· *More than 300 new 4G sites opened,* enabling the Group's network to provide 4G coverage to over 73% of the French population at September 30, 2016.
· *Free ranked by MobiNEX (Mobile Network Experience Index) as the third-leading operator worldwide in terms of the quality of experience delivered by its mobile data network.* This reflects the fact that the Group has created a denser 4G network thanks to the new frequencies it has recently obtained (with 900 new sites migrated to 1,800 MHz equipment and 200 sites to 700 MHz equipment during the third quarter of 2016). At September 30, 2016 the Group had some 2,200 sites equipped for 1,800 MHz and over 200 sites equipped for 700 MHz.

GroundLink, the growing global, tech-enabled black car service, has launched their Ride Now app-based service in Chicago. The service offers rides within as little as five minutes of making the request. The company has also reduced the lead time for scheduled service to 20 minutes or less.

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 16, 2016

Getting around Chicago has just become easier. GroundLink, the growing global, tech-enabled black car service, has launched their Ride Now app-based service in Chicago. The service offers rides within as little as five minutes of making the request. For Ride Now service, customers simply open GroundLink’s mobile app, select the location where they would like to be picked up and then select Ride Now as the time that they would like the ride. Once booked, the customer can watch in real-time as their driver is on the way to their location.

To encourage Chicago residents, and travelers to the “Windy City,” the ability to try GroundLink’s Ride Now option, GroundLink is offering a 20 percent discount on all Ride Now rides booked from now through the end of the year. Ride Now rides can only be booked via GroundLink’s mobile app. Once the ride is in progress, customers can track their car and communicate directly with their driver.

For customers wishing to reserve a car in advance, whether in need of a ride to and from the airport or for an important meeting, the company also offers scheduled service in Chicago. The lead-time for this service, which previously had been upwards of two hours, has now been reduced to 20 minutes or less. Additionally, GroundLink has updated its pricing model which translates into lower rates for shorter distance rides and better pricing to and from the airport.

“Our customers are frequent travelers and they stressed to us how important Chicago is as a destination and business market for them,” said Liz Carisone, CEO of GroundLink. “Therefore, it was imperative that we continue to expand our Chicago operations as we are committed to providing Chicagoans and travelers coming to the city with more options for both scheduled and near-demand services. It was also important for us to adjust our pricing to make it more competitive to what is currently being offered by ride-hailing providers and much more attractive than costlier traditional limo companies. However, no matter what the price point is, we will never sacrifice the safety and security of our customers.”

Apple to Launch 3 iPhone Models Next Year, One Getting OLED DisplayThe next-year iPhone is likely to be a complete overhaul of the existing lineup, with several sources pointing to a bezel-less all-glass design, but well-known Apple analyst house KGI goes for a more conservative approach. In a recent forecast on the next-generation iPhone, KGI Securities predicts that Apple is going to launch not one, not two, but three models next year, one of which will get the overly-discussed OLED display. Although at first glance everyone would be tempted to believe that Apple is finally ready to launch an iPhone Pro, that’s not the case, KGI says, and the three-model lineup will include the regular 4.7- and 5.5-inch versions, with the latter featuring two variations. The bigger iPhone Plus will be available in two versions, one with the LCD display that’s also available on the existing generation (most likely with some worthy improvements), and another one with an OLED screen. The latter will be more expensive, and Apple is expected to add... Reported by Softpedia 6 hours ago.
