As an island nation, Ireland has always thrived on accepting the new influences which washes up on its shore.
*Kormac* is a clear example. A renowned turntablist and producer, the Irish artist extends the limits of hip hop to include whatever comes to hand - which could be vintage instrumentals, jazz drum solos or spoken-word pieces.
New album 'Doorsteps' finds Kormac taking this approach into the studio. Out on October 20th, it finds the producer working alongside everyone from Ninja Tune signing Speech Debelle to 'Trainspotting' author and cultural provocateur Irvine Welsh.
A diverse and at times bizarre mixture, 'Doorsteps' nonetheless has a cohesive central thread; despite moving far beyond his origins, Kormac is able to rein everything in, to give some structure to the eclecticism.
Clash is able to premiere new cut 'Cloning' and it finds Kormac indulging in some straight up hip hop. Renowned rapper Koaste is on hand to lend some rhymes, while the beat - swift, direct - only occasionally hints at the left field delights on 'Doorsteps'.
