On Monday, John Galliano was confirmed as the new creative director of Maison Martin Margiela, causing a collective outburst across social channels and a number of online think pieces.
The role is recognised as the designer’s first prominent position since he was arrested in France in 2011, following an alleged racist tirade in a Parisian bar, the reprisal of which saw him lose his job at Christian Dior.
Renzo Rosso, president of OTB which owns the Maison, has said of the appointment: “Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul,” while the label’s Facebook page welcomed the future with the image above.
