A seductive trio, *DEMS* blend the electronic soul of James Blake and Jamie Woon with something new, something distinct.
It's difficult to know how to place their music. A composite of influences, DEMS essentially exist at the crossover point between three members.
Hailing from South London, there are shades of 90s IDM in their production, alongside a glistening house feel, or even the future driven experimentalism of Detroit techno.
At heart, though, DEMS are songwriters. Debut album 'Muscle Memory' defines this, presenting a group who match production expertise with dreamy atmospherics.
Piecing together a DJ mix for Clash, DEMS showcase many of their influences. Opening with Dorian Concept, the selection settles into a cold groove with cuts from Caribou, Dark Sky and Clams Casino.
Yet there's an experimental edge, too. The trio select a track from Airhead, while Erased Tapes' duo Kiasmos appear in the opening section.
