Formed in early 1988, *Fugazi* almost immediately hit the road.
Playing a burst of ten shows, the group then decided to head into Inner Ear Studio to lay some music down on tape.
The sessions only lasted for a few days, with the final mixdown being delayed by another batch of (no doubt incredible) live shows.
With their music evolving at a rapid rate, Fugazi decided not to give those sessions an official release. Placed on cassette and handed out at show, these early demo recordings would pass into Dischord lore.
Now Fugazi have decided to give 'First Demo' a full release. Containing the entire recording session, the release even featured one track - 'Turn Off Your Guns' - which wasn't contained on that fateful cassette.
'Merchandise' (Version) is essentially a live recording, with a number of guitar effects filtered through the studio process.
It's raw and uncompromising, but also packed with ideas - the shackles of hardcore were coming loose, with the recording acting as an exciting precursor of what was to come.
Check it out now.
'First Demo' will be released on November 18th.
