Critically respected, London musician Catherine Anne Davies recently launched her latest endeavour.
*The Anchoress* is a new vehicle, one designed to allow her to further continue her intelligent, forever creative songwriting abstractions.
Taking her name from an old, rather out of use term for a hermit or a recluse, The Anchoress is a solitary project which ironically relies on the assistance of others.
One time Mansun singer Paul Draper helped produce the singer's new EP, with the four track 'One For Sorrow' taking many months to piece together.
Catherine explains: "This has been made on a wing and a prayer, lots of favours, one car crash, one death, one broken hand, and a lot of patience on so many parts. Stir in three jobs, four studios, one arrest, three pianos, forty songs and one very patient engineer… and you get some way to understanding what a long road it has been…."
Out on November 3rd, the title cut is a feminist manifesto of sorts. Manchester duo Ghosting Season enter the fray, providing remix duties on a fractured, spectral re-work.
At times entering near ambient climes, the remix has an unsettling feel, with The Anchoress sounding as if she has been cut adrift, lost amidst endless North Sea fog.
