Fresh from supporting *Damien Rice* at a sold-out London Palladium, Danish serene-queen *Broken Twin* (aka Majke Voss Romme) talks us through her travel exploits. Was that her favourite venue? No, it was not.

*Best Trip…*
“Probably the first European tour I went on with the new band. Back then, none of us really knew each other, so it was kind of intense – learning how to communicate both musically and personally while travelling and sleeping shoulder to shoulder. But it really brought us together as a band and friends, and the last show we played was some sort of culmination of this. We played on a small boat sailing us down a beautiful river in France while the sun shone and the rain poured, and we had all had a bit too much red wine. Everything just seemed to come together in that little moment.”
*Worst Trip…*
“The tour I just mentioned had some less pretty moments as well. Like the dogfight that lasted all night long and kept us from sleeping at the dirtiest bed and breakfast you can imagine. Or the mad driver who had to swear and yell at every person we passed on the street. Or the endless hours we were stuck behind a broken tractor on our way to a festival we were already late for. The bad hangovers and early flights. All small bits, part of the package.”
*My favourite foreign venue…*
“That boat in France.”
*I'm surprisingly popular in…*
“The van, when others want to sleep. Apparently my shoulders where made for sleeping heads.”
*Best or worst exotic foodstuff…*
“I’m a vegetarian, so I don’t get to dive into all the weird meat dishes you meet on the road. In Germany, for instance, they seem to bring up new versions of cheese and meat in bread all the time. Everything goes, apparently. Best foodstuff is just always the homemade, local stuff.”
*The most interesting individual I’ve met on the road…*
“A lot of strange and beautiful people. For instance, this older guy who really didn’t understand what we were doing up on stage. He didn’t consider it to be music. He said this repeatedly and insisted that we should try to sound more like some guy called ‘Bob Dylanos’. We had a nice, strange talk.”
*Worst on-tour injury, accident or infection…*
“We played a show in Hamburg once where our bassist managed to smack the car door on top of our violinist’s tiny, fine fingers. They went pretty blue, but she still managed to play on some songs.”
*My essential travel item…*
“Pen and paper. And a yoga mat that I actually never use, but somehow still carry with me.”
*My essential travel tip…*
“Don’t ask the cabin crew if it’s okay to bring your guitar on the plane. And, bring your guitar on the plane.”
