*Agnes Martin* is a visionary figure in North American visual art, with her lengthy career still the subject of debate and inspiration.
Tate Modern is due to host a retrospective of the painter's work, including a newly commissioned short film. 'Agnes Martin Road Trip' focuses on an enormously important period in the artist's life and work.
From the *press release*:
"In 1967, just as her art was gaining acclaim, Martin abandoned the artistic community in New York City and went in search of solitude and silence. For almost two years she traveled across the US and Canada before finally settling in New Mexico."
"From there within tightly prescribed limits she imposed on her own practice Martin was able to continue to make extraordinary, visionary paintings, for over three decades until her death in 2004."
*Actress* has stepped in to supply the soundtrack. Darren Cunningham has worked on new music, inspired both by the artist's work and the journey itself. Clash is able to present a special preview of the exhibition, featuring fresh work from the producer.
