NikeLab x Pigalle
The sports megabrand rekindles its French collab.

A year after the pair made their full capsule line debut, NikeLab and Pigalle this season have again hooked up to present round two.

Collectively “reinterpreting the look of street basketball”, the luxe offshoot of the sports megabrand and the Stéphane Ashpool founded streetwear label (its moniker is borrowed from Paris’s red light district), have produced a nine piece line up for SS15, the hero status of which no doubt lends itself to the new Dunk Lux.

“The shape is very popular in Europe,” asserts Ashpool of the trainer. “I like the idea that the shoes can be worn by a diverse crowd. It’s the perfect transition between on-court and off-court.”

As for the rest of the collection, of which vests, long sleeved tees and shorts all feature, he elaborates: “As a daily basketball player with Parisian style, I developed very early this idea (of an on-court and off-court approach). For example, I was known to play in a chino short with a white tank and some Nike Air Raids. As soon as the game finished, I put back on my shirt and hat. I could easily spend all day in this outfit. There was no need to change.”

Available now online and in selected NikeLab outlets, the full collection takes its sartorial starting point from circa 90’s American fashion – a period of noted importance to the designer – while the key graphic print is inspired by baskeball’s shot clock.

“The shot clock is a base, but it’s really movement and times passing that are two of my main inspirations,” Stéphane confirms.
