If you’ve no idea whatsoever what *Old Man Gloom* is, this new documentary on the band, Here Is A Gift For You, probably won’t appeal. Or, maybe it will? The band is amazing, so, why not spend 40 minutes of your Friday in the company of some heavy, heavy sounds – and no, they’ve not collaborated with Skrillex, yet.
“Folk, doom, metal,” though. Yeah, maybe we’ll go with that. What I can confirm: when I saw the band at London’s Scala back in April, it was an experience. Changed my life, man. But then, I liked them already, and *Isis* is one of my favourite bands of all time, and I totally dig Converge and Cave In, so. Yeah.
On this doc: directed by Kenneth Thomas, who directed *Blood Sweat + Vinyl*, it tells the story of their inception, dispels myths about their musical style and presents numerous tongue-in-cheek interviews with various people like the head-honcho at Aquarius Records, Mike Gallagher of MGR, and Aaron Turner’s father in law.
Sounds good, yeah? I’ll be watching it on my lunch break. Why not join me. (Note: it isn't all entirely serious. Old Man Gloom is not really Voltron.)
*Old Man Gloom online*. The band releases a new album, ‘The Ape Of God’, on November 17th.
